10 SEO tips for your website

February 27th, 2018

A well-rendered website or a well-functioning web shop is always a bonus, but you don’t get far with a badly optimized website. Search engines are very sensitive to SEO, such as alt texts, keywords or meta description. In our previous blog post you could read why SEO is so important for your website. Today we explain to you how you can score higher in search engines in an effective way. In 2018 you want to achieve a top position, and that’s why we made 10 SEO tips for you.

10 tips in a row

10 tips in a row, so that your website will score better in the Google search results. A lot to take in! But it’s worth it. After applying these tips, you need to do one more thing, and that’s to constantly optimize your website. That’s how you stay on number 1 in the search results.

Use the right keywords

To use the right keywords, it’s important to know which keywords your target audience uses. But how do you know which keywords they use?

This can be done using Google Keyword Planner, a free tool. Does this seem too complicated for you? Of course you can also get more insights in an easier way, by filling in certain words in Google yourself and seeing the results for yourself. You immediately get an idea what people are looking for when it comes to your product or service.

Content is king

A cliché, but worth gold. Content and storytelling go hand in hand, because content with high quality ensures that you build a relationship with your readers. The consequence? These readers will share your content and result in more traffic to your website.

SEO-friendly URLs

Make sure your URLs are short and powerful. Google itself indicated that more attention is paid to the first 3 to 5 words in a URL. Avoid meaningless URLs, such as for example: www.madzuli.be/blog-465687 and avoid URLs that are too long such as: www.madzuli.be/SEO/10-SEO-tips-that-your-company-help-group-in-Google-and-other. Oh yes! Always use the most important keyword in your URL.

Think about your page title

Your page title is one of the most important SEO factors. That’s why we advise you to process your main keyword in your page title, preferably in the beginning. Why? Google pays a lot of attention to the first words in a title.

Meta description

A good description encourages visitors to click on your result. Using a meta description, you can influence how your web pages are described and displayed in the search results. Make sure that all your pages have a unique description. Include the most important keywords here too.

Optimize your headers and subtitles

Alle pages of a website are structured by HTML headings . H1 is the main title, you only use this once per page. All headings that follow are provided with your main keywords. By applying this technique, search engines can more easily scan your text, allowing people to find the information they are looking for faster

Put your most important keyword in the introduction

This is probably something you do automatically, but we want to emphasize it anyway. Your main keyword comes back in the first 100-150 words of your page or blog post. Google understands in this way what your pages are about.

URLs with and without www are considered by Google as two different websites. So check whether your website with www leads to the same page as without www. Your website will score less in Google if this is not the case because the search engine could recognize your website as duplicated content.

Use media

Have you ever noticed that a text appears when you move your cursor over an image? That text is called an ALT attribute, or in other words an alternative text. An alt text describes images on your website and gives more information to Google. In this text you also include your most important keywords. This allows the search engine to better understand what is on the images, allowing them to appear in the Google Images search results.

Collect links

Link building can take place both externally and internally. We can only stimulate internal link building by linking different pages. By using internal links, we can create an internal structure and pages can obtain a higher quality score as they gain more links.
